Introducing: Honey County

By: Lauren Tingle

Say hello to your new favorite people Leeann Skoda, Danni Rosner and Devon Jane! Together, they are Honey County with a sweet sound that sticks. Read on to learn more about their music, how they really feel about bees and which movie has the hottest vamps. Their self-titled, four-song EP featuring the hot lead single “99 Bottles” is available now.

Tell me the story of how you met one another and tell me how you were discovered. Were you instant fans of each other when you met?
Danni: We met through mutual friends. It’s that good circle that just kind of connects itself! Our energies all blend really well, I think that’s one of the things that has to be true to make good music, it’s certainly true of us!
Devon: I was a fan of both ya’ll when we first met!

Your band is called Honey County. But are you afraid of bees? Tell me how you decided on your name.
Devon: I am afraid of Bees! I’ve never been stung by one and I REALLY don’t want to be!
Danni: Does anyone like bees? Haha! We put our names and things we liked into a scrabble word-jumbler and a bunch of words came out. “HONEY” and “COUNTY” were some of them, which sounded pretty sweet to us! No pun intended.

“Endless Summer” is so infectious! The whistling makes it instant ear candy. Who is the best whistler in the group?
Danni & Devon:  Leeann is pretty much good at everything, so we vote for her!

Lookin’ Around For You” — I think everyone can relate to this track. Everyone has been on a date they weren’t crazy about because they’re thinking about someone or something else. Do you have any strategies on how to get out of a date gone bad?
Leeann: There’s no getting out. Once you’re in, grin and bear it and laugh about it after!
Devon: I totally second Leeann.
Danni: Ditto.

“Who You Think I Am” — There are so many life lessons within the first verse! Wagin’ wars with expectations; Fake it ‘til you make it ’s what it is right now… Congratulations on a solid song and solid body of work overall. What are your secrets for personal strength?
Danni: A good friend of ours that we write with, Warren Sellers, said that when you love something so much that you can deal with the ups and downs, that’s where your strength comes from.  We thought that really rang true with our love for music, it keeps us strong!

“99 Bottles” is killer! Again — the guitar playing — sick! And Danni! How do you remember all those beers? Do y’all have a favorite brew? Where is the best place to drink in your hometown?
Danni: I love to rap, and naming all those beers just gave me a good excuse to do it!  Haha. I’ll go anywhere with a good Blue Moon on tap. That’s my favorite! I’m always down to grab a cold one at Jammin Java — my old stomping grounds in Virginia.
Leeann: I like to drink Smithwicks and black and tans at the local Irish pub down the street from my place.
Devon: Blue Moon! It’s not my hometown, but my favorite place to drink Blue Moon is in every single bar in Nashville!

Blood from a Stone” on True Blood is also killer! I love the novels and the show. What doors open for an act when a song gets picked for such a popular series? Do you plan on doing more music for TV?
Danni:  That was so cool to have a song on a major TV Show. I think it gave us some good attention and directed people to our music. We’re working on a few film and TV things, and you’ll be the first to know.

Time for more fun get-to-know-you chit chat! What was your first word?
Danni: Besh. My parents think I was trying to say “Brush” because my mother is an artist (she’s an amazing oil painter! I love you mom!).

If your life could be a Disney film, what would it be and why?
Leeann:  Little Mermaid! To be friends with rad musical animals and hunt for treasure in abandoned ships. And plus Prince Eric. Totally hot.
Danni: Back off Leeann!  Eric is MINE!
Devon: HOOK.

What film, song, or TV show do you quote the most?
Leeann:  Probably Christopher Guest’s Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman.
Devon: “The Raiders March” (a.k.a. “Indiana Jones Theme”). I sing the melody all the time.
Danni:  The Yassss Cat on YouTube.

Vampire question — Hollywood has a lot of hot vamps. Which movie had the hottest? A) Blade (Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson) B) Interview with the Vampire (Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas) C) Queen of the Damned (Aaliyah, Stuart Townsend) D) From Dusk Till Dawn (George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Salma Hayek)
Leeann:  B! Antonio all the way
Danni:  B! Brad Pitt 4 eva

What is country missing right now?
Leeann:  Hank Williams
Danni:  Women!
